FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE
LODGE #4
The Det. Joseph Walker Legal Defense Fund
Good morning Mr. Winkler, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing."
We sincerely thank you for giving Local # 232 President Sean O'Leary and I an audience to address our cause with your membership at F.O.P. State Lodge meeting today. As you requested I am forwarding you a synopsis of this unfortunate situation and our efforts being made at this time.
Det. Joseph Walker was forced into an unimaginable situation on June 8, while traveling on a Maryland roadway with his wife and three young children. A preliminary review of the incident by members of PBA Local# 232 disclosed the action taken by Det. Walker was lawful and justified in order to protect his family and himself. We hope that, as his case works through the justice system, the true facts will continue to emerge. With that being said, Joe has a long and costly road ahead of him. Joe has been suspended from the Office without pay and is not covered under our PBA's liability insurance plan, since the incident took place off duty and out of state. It is anticipated that his legal fees will be over one hundred thousand dollars.
Detective Walker is a decorated 18 year veteran of Law Enforcement and a devoted family man. He is not a violent person by any stretch of the imagination and to witness the way he has been depicted and treated in the last several weeks should make anyone that wears the badge sick.
The National Police Defense Foundation (NPDF), a nationally recognized organization that assists law enforcement officers who have been wrongly charged, has come to Joe's assistance. The NPDF has pledged to provide a network of professional resources, such as internationally recognized experts in Forensic Science and private investigation to assist in Joe's defense, which come at a high cost. Therefore, anyone who would like to make a tax-deductible donation to Joe's legal defense fund may do so by going on line to www.npdf.org
